MicroGen Management Team

Dr. Robert G. Andosca is the co-founder, President and CEO of MicroGen Systems, Inc. (www.microgensystems.com). Dr. Andosca started MicroGen in 2007 par-time, and went fulltime in 2010. He has over 25 years of professional experience in the semiconductor and MicroElectroMechnical Systems (MEMS) industries, including operations/management roles, business development and lead technical engineering positions. Dr. Andosca has held senior positions at the Smart System Technology Center (formerly Infotonics), Lilliputian Systems, Umicore, Corning IntelliSense, Clare, Lockheed Martin and Irvine Sensors/IBM Microelectronics.
In 2012, Dr. Andosca received his Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from The University of Vermont (UVM; www.uvm.edu). His dissertation research topic was on theoretical and experimental studies of piezoelectric MEMS vibrational energy harvesters (PZEH). PZEH prototypes were developed at Cornell University’s NanoScale Science and Technology Facility (www.cnf.cornell.edu).  His PZEH design serves as the baseline for MicroGen’s BOLT™ (resonant-based for industrial and building and other fixed-frequency applications) and VIBE™ (impulse-based for automotive, planes and trains, wearable electronics and other broadband applications) energy harvesting product lines in production at X-FAB MEMS Foundries in Germany (www.xfab.com). 
Dr. Andosca holds an M.S. in Materials Science from UVM and a B.S. in Physics/Mathematics from USNH Keene State College. Many papers on semiconductor, MEMS and PZEH devices have been published or submitted.  He has 14 issued patents and there are another 8 international/US patents pending.  Dr. Andosca has been an invited keynote speaker all over the world on the subject of energy harvesting for the wireless sensor networks, Internet of Things and wearable electronics technology.

Michael J. Perrotta CFO/COO

Mr. Perrotta’s background is heavily weighted toward business development, engineering and finance, dedicating his current career to bringing tech based startups from initial stages to operating profitably. In recent years, he has both founded, sold and participated is several stages of funding of several startup companies on both coasts in energy, medical devices and informatics, and imaging, including an IPO. He has brought financing, fashioned timely and cost efficient infrastructure to developing companies, assuring that the appropriate investment in the infrastructure benefits customers, management and investors. He typically assumes the role of CEO, CFO or COO. Prior to entrepreneurial endeavors, Mike has had twenty years of previous experience in two Fortune 50 companies, holding US and international executive leadership roles.

Kathleen M. Vaeth Ph.D.
VP Engineering

Dr. Vaeth joined MicroGen Systems Inc. in 2012.  She has more than a decade of experience building and leading multi-disciplinary teams, most recently with Eastman Kodak.   Dr. Vaeth has developed technologies in MEMS microfluidics, organic electronics and displays, and piezoelectric materials and actuators.  Her research work spans the design, fabrication, and characterization of devices based on these technologies, and her responsibilities have included transferring processes to MEMS manufacturing facilities.  Dr. Vaeth is also a guest lecturer at Cornell University and has previously held the title of Adjunct Professor of the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell University.  Dr. Vaeth earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was a Hertz Fellow, and holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, where she was a Kodak Fellow.   She has 20 publications, 15 issued U.S. patents, and has given numerous invited talks and lectures.           

Stuart Ferguson
VP Business Development

Mr. Ferguson’s professional career has spanned 30 years and includes senior management roles in research and development, engineering management, operations, and sales and marketing at companies such Lucas Automotive (Nova Sensor), VTI, Breed Technologies, SSI Technologies, LV Sensors, and Alligator North America.  Mr. Ferguson’s career has focused on the introduction of leading edge sensor technologies into new markets and applications in automotive and industrial markets, working with companies in the start-up phase (VTI, LV Sensors) and leading the transition at existing companies (SSI, Alligator) from electromechanical to micro-electronic sensor based capabilities and products.  Mr. Ferguson holds a MSc. in the Physics and Technology of Amorphous Materials from the University of Dundee in Scotland, with undergraduate studies in Applied Physics and Electronics Engineering at Napier in Edinburgh.
